Bruckner won one Independent Spirit Award as "Best female role" due to her portrayal. Her family consisted of three sisters and a brother. Hungarian was her first language and she practiced it regularly to guarantee the fluency. Bruckner was an actress from California in Hollywood born to Hungarian parents and Russian mothers, who divorced. Her paternal grandmother was German. Her parents were married in Hungary and moved to the U.S. in 1984 through an asylum camp in Italy. She is the sister of two brothers, and also has two other sisters.
