Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 - Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a quiet town located on the West Island, which is part of Montreal's island. The West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar of its purpose. They often believe it's an island to the west of Montreal however it's actually the West Island encompasses everything between the cities of Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel is said to be born on the West Island, although this isn't the truth. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. When she was a child she hoped to become a performer but an unexpected growth spurt made it impossible. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet and 1 inch." When I grew out of my male counterparts, I gave up. Former dancers often turn to acting and in the instance of Brugel,, it was an urging by her teacher of drama. The teacher recommended that she take part in an audition for the annual school play. She tried out and was eventually cast as the role of the main character in Anne of Green Gables. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2000. In the past 20 years, Brugel's work has been featured on both the small and big screen. The most notable was her recognition when she landed her part as Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actress in the season 1 and only appeared occasionally.
